Oyster Tables Luchterduinen
To introduce European flat oysters in Luchterduinen offshore wind farm, we collaborated with The Rich North Sea and Eneco. We improved the Oyster Table design based on previous projects, and installed 1000 living oysters in the wind farm. In 2024 the first monitoring campaign showed an abundance of life on and around the structures.

This Oyster Table design is developed specifically for the conditions in the Dutch offshore wind farm Luchterduinen, characterized by high water flow velocity and much sand. Four tables are placed on the rocks of the scour protection, to prevent the 3000 kg structures to sink into the soft sediment of the seabed. Each table holds about 250 adult flat oysters.
The first video footage of the structures was shot in 2024 by an Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV). We see an abundance of life on and around the structures. Future monitoring efforts are to indicate oyster reef establishment and growth over time.
